The Board of Investment (BoI) has approved tax privileges for new investment projects in agriculture, medicine and toy businesses, worth over 117 million baht.

The first project, known as Plant Factory, involves the production of "new-generation plants", while others are investments in thalassemia test kits and machinery to make modelling clay.

BoI secretary-general Duangjai Asawachintachit said the tax incentive programmes are part the plan to promote and support innovation and high-tech investments to improve industries and help local farmers.

The Plant Factory project, worth 94 million baht, is operated by V T Nam-Nuang 2017 in the northeastern province of Udon Thani.

The factory, designed to produce high-quality plants under a controlled environment, has a capacity of 360 tonnes a year.

The project followed the state launch of measures to strengthen the farming sector and agro-industry in June this year.

"The government wants to turn Thai agriculture into smart farming, which promotes technologies for quality and temperature control, independent of chemicals," said Ms Duangjai.

The thalassemia test kit project's investment is valued at 22.5 million baht, she said. Production facilities are designed to have 50,000 test kits a year.

"Officials approved this investment to support the state plan to help small and medium-sized enterprises," she said.

Ms Duangjai said the government also supports use of machines to improve production efficiency in the modelling clay business. She did not disclose the investment value.

This project focuses on the use of automated assembly lines and mechanical arms in the manufacturing process. New machines will be also used to help the manufacturer deal with packaging jobs.
