The fire at a rubber gloves factory in Surat Thani will have only a small impact on overall production, Sri Trang Gloves (Thailand) chief executive Jarinya Jirujkul said on Monday.

The blaze at the company's production plant in Kanchanadit district on Sunday would reduce output by about 200 million pieces, of a total planned production of almost 36 billion from all its factories this year, he said.

The Hat Yai-headquartered firm has factories in Songkhla, Trang and Surat Thani.

The fire in an extension under construction at the factory in Kanchanadit was extinguished within two hours, with no reports of death or injury.

The cause of the fire is being investigated and total damage still being assessed.
