Privately run Thainakarin Hospital (TNH) is planning to spend 3 billion baht building its second hospital in the Bang Na area this year to cash in on trends in healthcare, driven by Covid-19 and ageing demographics.

The hospital is interested in importing Covid-19 vaccines if allowed by the government, TNH chief executive Thiti Sihanatkathakul said yesterday.

The spread of the pandemic, an aged society and the growth of the wellness business are providing both opportunities and challenges to the hospital business.

"These factors encouraged us to invest in the new hospital to serve local and foreign patients in eastern Bangkok and eastern provinces," said Mr Thiti.

A business plan for the new hospital, located on 16 rai of land, is expected to be concluded soon.

TNH operates a 190-bed hospital in the Bang Na area of Bangkok.

Mr Thiti said the hospital sees an opportunity to serve more foreigners, who currently account for 20% of its total patients.

It allocated a budget of 300 million baht to buy medical equipment and renovate the hospital this year.

TNH recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Business Alignment and the Phillips (Thailand) Co to buy more medical equipment, especially for cancer treatments.

"This year we are determined to further raise the quality of our services in treating complicated illnesses, and providing holistic care to patients," said Mr Thiti.

To achieve the goal, TNH will combine its medical expertise with world-class medical technology and family-like hospitality. This will lead to customised treatments and services for superior results and experiences.

The hospital plans to build a Linac Center and purchase radiation machines to increase its capacity in providing treatment for cancer patients.

Its construction, which began last year, is scheduled to be completed next year.

TNH expects its 2021 revenue to not be different from that of last year when Covid-91 hit Thailand and caused some impact on its business, said Mr Thiti without elaborating.

In 2020, the hospital reported total revenue of 2.03 billion baht and a profit of 256 million.
