HSBC announces the appointment of Giorgio Gamba as chief executive to lead the group's operations in Thailand.

Mr Gamba succeeds Kelvin Tan, who will lead HSBC's Asean sustainable finance and investments activity in Singapore.

"Thailand occupies a key position in global supply chains, and we believe the economic recovery will be fast when it comes. Mr Gamba's broad experience across HSBC's businesses makes him the right person to support our Thai customers in their journey as they bounce back from Covid-19 and grow into the recovery," said Surendra Rosha, co-chief executive of HSBC in Asia-Pacific.

Mr Gamba joined HSBC in 2001 and has worked across wealth and personal banking, risk and global banking in Hong Kong, India, South Korea and the UK.

Most recently, he led the bank's Asia-Pacific public sector coverage team out of Hong Kong.

Following the recent launch of HSBC's private banking services in Thailand, Mr Gamba is expected to lead the bank's expanded business to further solidify its position as the international bank of choice for Thai corporates and family offices.
