Revenue collection falls below target

The government's total revenue collection in fiscal 2021 ending on Sept 30 was 2.36 trillion baht, falling short of the target by 11.5%, mainly as a result of the impact of the prolonged Covid-19 pandemic on the economy, said Pornchai Thiraveja, director-general of the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO).

He added that the amount is lower than the previous fiscal year by 0.7%.

The Revenue Department was able to collect 1.875 trillion baht in revenue, 10.1% below the the target, while the Excise Department collected 531 billion baht, 16.2% below the target.

The Customs Department collected 102 billion baht, 2.3% below the target.

On Thursday, the FPO said it had downgraded its forecast for Thai economic expansion this year to an average 1% from the previously predicted 1.3% mainly as a result of the resurgence of the pandemic in April, which severely impacted the country in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, Mr Pornchai said 119,000 people were still entitled to take part in phase 3 of the government's "Khon La Khrueng" (Let's Go Halves) co-payment scheme. Registration for this group would begin on Nov 1. Phase 3 of the scheme aims to provide access to 28 million participants.

The scheme is one of the government's stimulus packages aiming to mitigate the pandemic's impact on the public.

Under this scheme, the government pays for half of food, drink and general goods purchases for people. The state subsidy is up to 150 baht daily per person. Phase 3, which began on July 1, will expire on Dec 31.

As of Oct 28, 25.5 million participants executed their right with total accumulated spending of over 115.2 billion baht, of which 58.6 billion was spent by registrants and the remainder is the state subsidy.

As of Oct 29, spending on food delivery service via digital food delivery platforms was 897.8 million baht, of which 463.5 million baht was from spending by registrants and the rest from the state subsidy.
