Huawei Technologies Thailand has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Khon Kaen University (KKU) to nurture new digital talent and build a quality talent pool for Thailand's ICT sector.

Under the three-year agreement, the Huawei ICT Academy trains and provides professional development opportunities for KKU students and professors by using Huawei's knowledge, expertise and training programmes.

Students are encouraged to participate in talent-enablement platforms such as the Huawei ICT Competition and the Huawei ICT Job Fair.

The Huawei-KKU collaboration using cloud services, 5G and other emerging technologies is set to enhance the university's position as the medical hub for Thailand's 20 hospitals in the Northeast.

Huawei plans to donate tools, including IdeaHub smart boards and Huawei Certified ICT Associate Lab sets, which will make the learning experience more efficient.

At the signing ceremony on March 24, Assoc Prof Charnchai Panthongviriyakul and the president of KKU said the collaboration marks an important step for the university, in line with Thailand's digitalisation strategy.

"As cutting-edge technologies have become more crucial for upgrading and empowering the education sector, we will create more advanced learning and skills acquisition opportunities for our students," he said.

Kevin Cheng, president of the enterprise business group at Huawei Technologies Thailand, welcomed the partnership and said the MoU demonstrates Khon Kaen University's commitment to transform itself in the digital era using emerging technology for developing long-term teaching and learning models.

"We will support Khon Kaen University with the latest ICT innovations and encourage professors and students alike to get Huawei certification that is widely accepted and internationally recognised," Mr Cheng said.

"This, in turn, will benefit the wider community, to support the country with top talent and tackle the challenges of fresh ICT developments."
