Central Group and real estate company Signa have entered into a management agreement with a Hyatt Corporation affiliate for Austria's new upscale lifestyle hotel Thompson Vienna.

The partnership marks a new step forward for Central Group as it expands its luxury portfolio in Europe, aligning with the company's vision of becoming a world leader in lifestyle and service.

Sean Hill, managing director of Central Group Europe, said the Thompson Vienna would create a new, unique and immersive destination for tourists and locals alike, offering an all-encompassing experience including shopping, dining, entertainment and accommodation.

"The joint partnership is an important milestone for Central Group and Signa, having joined forces with Hyatt, and is a unique addition to our lifestyle and luxury portfolio in Europe," Mr Hill said, adding that the hotel would be open in 2024.

"The 148-room upscale lifestyle hotel will be located on Mariahilfer Street, a popular retail area of Vienna. Next to the hotel is a new luxury department store which will bring another exciting development to the city."

Claus Stadler, chief operating officer at Signa, commented: "We are delighted to extend our collaboration with Hyatt on this exciting new landmark for the Viennese social scene. Together we will reimagine how retail and hospitality intertwine to create a high-quality lifestyle offering for our guests and visitors."

In 2015, Central Group partnered with Signa to jointly invest in and develop The KaDeWe Group, followed by Globus in 2020. As a result, Europe has become a key market and strategic focus for Central Group.

Architects OMA and interior designers Tara Bernerd & Partners will design Thompson Vienna, creating a modern, edgy design inspired by the Austrian capital's architecture and distinctive characteristics.

"We are excited to be expanding our relationship with Signa and Central Group by introducing plans for Thompson Vienna, the third Hyatt property in the city, offering a refined, residential feel," said Felicity Black-Roberts, Hyatt's vice-president of development in Europe.

She said Thompson Vienna would attract visitors and locals alike with a dynamic social scene, all within the development that will integrate high-end shopping, dining, entertainment, fashion and accommodation in one destination.
