Microsoft platform to aid remote working

Offering to support flexible working

Global tech powerhouse Microsoft Corporation has launched its "Employee Experience" platform which aims to support flexible working and future workplaces in the digital era.

Mr Nadella suggests the next evolution of work will comprise collaboration, knowledge and well-being.

"Technology makes it possible for rapid transformation as well as remote and hybrid work during the pandemic," said Satya Nadella, chief executive of Microsoft.

Microsoft Teams, a cloud-based team collaboration software, and Microsoft 365, a suite for innovative office apps, have served as platforms for people to work, learn and collaborate, he said.

Microsoft Teams offers solutions for online meetings, calls, chat, content collaboration as well as business process workflows.

"In the fall, the number of daily active users of Microsoft Teams climbed to 115 million while Microsoft 365 users around the world generated more than 30 billion collaboration minutes in a single day as people communicated, collaborated and co-authored content," he said.

In a new hybrid work, companies need to empower workers to feel connected, supported and be able to bring their best to work.

Companies basically spend US$300 billion a year on employee experience improvement, including training, benefits and well-being. Technologies that are acquired for the task are somehow fragmented, hard to find or disruptive to the flow of work, he said.

"Business needs to have technology infrastructure that supports a flexible working environment," said Mr Nadella. "The next evolution of work are collaboration, knowledge and well-being."

Microsoft has created an entirely new employee experience designed for the digital era called Employee Experience Platforms (EXP). An EXP brings digital support to the systems that employees use to do their work, provides people with the resources and support they need to succeed and thrive regardless of their locations, he said.

Under the platform, Microsoft Viva will make it easier and more natural for employees to stay connected, access knowledge, learn on the job, and use data insights, enabling individuals to prioritise well-being, empower managers to lead more effectively, and help leaders drive better decision-making across the organisation, he said.

Microsoft Viva builds on the power of Teams and Microsoft 365 to unify the employee experience across four key areas – engagement, wellbeing, learning, and knowledge. Viva includes four modules: Connections, Insights, Topics, and Learning with more on the cards, he said.

Its research shows nearly 60% of workers feel less connected to their team since the move to remote work. Accessed in Teams, Viva Connections provides a single-entry point for employee engagement and internal communications, he said.
