SYS Acquires EPD certification, Strengthening Its Green Commitment to Thailand's Construction Industry

Siam Yamato Steel Co., Ltd. (SYS) reinforces its commitment to eco-friendly practices and sustainability by acquiring the Environment Product Declaration (EPD) certification, a significant step towards advancing Thailand's construction industry.

Siam Yamato Steel Co., Ltd. (SYS), the manufacturer behind Thailand's pioneering "Green Steel Series" products, the country's first eco-friendly section steel offerings, has successfully obtained the Environment Product Declaration (EPD).

This achievement underscores SYS's unwavering dedication to delivering top-tier products while offering greener solutions to the construction industry. The strategic move is geared towards curtailing carbon dioxide emissions, aligning with the ambitious target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, and bolstering eco-friendly alternatives within the construction sector.

Mr. Chatrabhop Pontham, Division Manager of ESG Management, revealed, "SYS stands as the first hot-rolled structural steel manufacturer in Thailand to be bestowed with the EPD environmental certification in accordance with ISO 14025 and ISO 21930:2017 standards, accredited by UL Solutions, an esteemed international EPD accreditation organisation. An EPD serves as a comprehensive label delineating environmental impacts across a product's lifecycle. This initiative showcases transparency and underscores the manufacturer's profound dedication to environmental stewardship, harmonising with Thailand's vision for achieving carbon neutrality by 2050."

He further added, "SYS places paramount emphasis on product quality, adherence to standards, and embraces accountability towards the environment, societal well-being, and local communities. This commitment is also vividly illustrated through endeavours aimed at curbing energy consumption and mitigating carbon emissions and greenhouse gases. These efforts encompass initiatives such as the promotion of solar energy for electricity generation via renewable resources, deployment of Continuous Emissions Management System (CEMS), and implementation of exhaust purification systems. Additionally, comprehensive greenhouse gas emission assessments are conducted for both the organisation and its product range, supplemented by a spectrum of activities dedicated to environmental preservation and climate stability, all geared towards the aspirational goal of carbon neutrality by 2050."

Mr. Pongsak Haelom, Marketing Manager of Siam Yamato Steel Co., Ltd., highlighted, "Products endorsed with EPD certification serve as tangible indicators of their environmental impact. This pivotal facet empowers consumers to discern a product's ecological footprint, facilitating well-informed purchasing decisions that favour products with a diminished environmental toll. This, in turn, reflects solidarity with the manufacturer's pursuit of reducing societal and environmental impacts."

He went on to underscore, "EPD not only aids construction projects in meeting stringent green building criteria but also bolsters their standing in the construction materials and resources category. This concerted push towards EPD contributes to the transformation of the construction industry into a beacon of sustainability, propelling it towards an era of sustainable growth and progress."
