Advanced Info Service (AIS) is improving its service capacities and launching new innovations as part of its efforts to "take a leap towards the next evolution".

AIS, the largest mobile operator by subscribers, says the evolution will be carried out through its three core pillars of development: digital infrastructure; cross-industry collaboration; and the sustainable growth of people and society.

Chief executive Somchai Lertsutiwong said these steps form part of the company's target to become a cognitive tech company by next year, operating under the concept of a "sustainable nation".

"The current global situation presents extreme challenges with wide-ranging impacts, including the risk of warfare arising from geopolitics, international trade barriers, energy, inflation, and the environment," he said.

Mr Somchai said the company is ready to play a part in building resilience and sustainability for Thailand through the key evolutions of the digital world and the country's telecom industry, which he highlighted as being the next evolution.

AIS has invested around 1 trillion baht on its network expansion over a period of roughly 30 years. The company has 46,590 cell sites nationwide and a 254,000-kilometre-long fibre cable network.

"AIS believes telecom networks are more than merely cables. Networks can always add intelligence to deliver many more benefits and create added value for customers," Mr Somchai said.

AIS is expanding the capabilities of its enterprise infrastructure and platforms, including its Communication Platform as a Service (CPaaS), which is a cloud-based solution for corporate communications to connect with its 5G network, fibre network, edge computing system, cloud system, and software application networks.

In the realm of broadband service infrastructure, the company's collaboration with Triple T Broadband (TTTBB), known for its 3BB-branded service, aims to bring extensive benefits to their combined user base of over 13 million households.

AIS has also entered a new evolution through its "Living Network" service, which represents much more than just telecommunications. With this service, customers are able to control and design their own data use cases to match their lifestyles. The service will be launched next month.

AIS has also introduced to the country the latest WiFi 7 technology in partnership with TP-Link, featuring WiFi 7 standard routers designed to connect devices, alleviate signal congestion issues, ensure smooth usage, support 8K video streaming, and meet the demands of every member of every household.

In terms of cross industry collaboration, Mr Somchai said AIS has been working with ZTE to officially roll out a Cloud PC for Enterprise solution, which allows companies to manage their resources in the form of a Desktop as a Service (DaaS). The cloud-based system allocates resources as required for maximum security in terms of data protection.

For the first time in Southeast Asia, AIS's collaboration with Microsoft provides the services of Microsoft Teams Phone, which enables companies to manage their communications conveniently, securely and cost effectively. The service enables employees to make and receive calls to external numbers via the familiar Microsoft Teams interface.

Mr Somchai said AIS is leveraging the strengths of its partners, such as Krungthai Bank, to implement a platform connecting Tung Ngern and Thong Fah (Blue Flag) retailers, comprising over 1.8 million small traders, mum and pop stores, and street food vendors nationwide.

The company has also forged partnerships with leading department stores and over 30,000 partner stores countrywide to deliver benefits and grant exclusive privileges to consumers.

To foster the sustainable growth of society and the public, Mr Somchai said AIS has been promoting the use of technology constructively and responsibly. Users have been provided with the skills to be able to be good digital citizens through the AIS Aunjai Cyber programme since 2016, to reduce the impact of cyberthreats and scams.

Moreover, AIS has implemented artificial intelligence technology in network towers to manage energy use in line with customer load as part of its green network policy.
