OR marks 5th Anniversary with 'OR Green Blankets to Fight Winter' for a Low-Carbon Society

In 2023, PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR) celebrated its 5 years of dedication to the energy and integrated retail business. Committed to advancing its organization under the vision "Empowering All toward Inclusive Growth," OR strives to create opportunities for collective and inclusive growth.

In alignment with sustainable development principles within the SDG framework in OR’s way, the company actively supports and creates growth opportunities for individuals, communities, the economy, and the environment. This commitment extends to various dimensions, including:

  • S - Small: Creating opportunities for small-scale individuals.
  • D - Diversified: Providing diverse business opportunities for growth through a platform.
  • G - Green: Promoting all businesses to be environmentally friendly, supporting the creation of a low-carbon society, and aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2033, with the ultimate goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2053.

As part of its 5th anniversary, the company launched "OR Green Blankets to Fight Winter" project as an initiative to promote a low-carbon society by creating blankets from recycled plastic bottles and distributing them to keep people warm during the winter season. The initiative builds upon its "Yak Lak Yim” project, which serves as a solution to address the issue of plastic waste while also promoting a circular economy. The process involves collecting used plastic bottles (PET) through PTT stations in Bangkok and the metropolitan area, as well as OR offices and participating schools in the "Yak (Separate), Lak (Exchange), and Yim (Smile) School Camp," totaling 26 locations.

To turn waste into value, the collected PET bottles undergo an upcycling process, transforming them into plastic fibers that are woven into fabric. This fabric is then cut and sewn and turned to be blanket by a community enterprise at Wat Chak Daeng, Samut Prakan province. The blankets, totaling 16,000 pieces, equivalent to the donation of over 300,000 PET bottles, which exceed the target of 200,000 bottles (11 plastic bottles of 600 ml = 1 blanket), are distributed to provide warmth to those affected by cold weather in 140 rural communities in the Northern and Northeastern regions.

The implementation of this project serves as a strategy to help reduce single-use plastic waste and mitigate its environmental impact. Additionally, it contributes to job creation and income generation for community enterprises while fostering understanding and awareness of environmental care. This is achieved through efficient resource management, proper waste disposal, and the transformation of plastic waste into new products for everyday use, thereby supporting the creation of a sustainable low-carbon society.

OR's commitment to collaborative community and societal development has been a consistent practice for the company. This commitment encompasses improving the quality of life in local communities, creating shared value, distributing economic prosperity to society, and promoting environmentally sustainable resource management. Furthermore, the company actively engages in social responsibility through collaboration with social groups and communities to address issues, innovate projects, and contribute to ongoing social development.
