CKPower's Pioneering Efforts Sparking Clean Energy Communities

Discover how CKPower empowers communities toward sustainability.

CKPower is recharging local communities as vital clean energy forces on the path to Net Zero, despite the global crises casting doubt on the prospect of a world free from greenhouse gas emissions. Their "Hing Hoi" project, which translates to "firefly," exemplifies CKPower's commitment to sustainability and empowering society in achieving this goal.

As CKPower, Thailand's largest renewable electricity producer, embarks on its journey towards a greener future, it faces challenges and makes strategic investments in clean energy capacity expansion, including AI-operated Solar-based Generation Plants and Hydroelectric Power Plants. These developments have significantly improved the quality of life and well-being of local communities.

The "Hing Hoi" project serves as a pioneering model for CKPower's community development programs nationwide, known as OPOP (One Power Plant, One Product). This initiative underscores the company's dedication to building trust and value within local communities by offering support across three key modules: Hardware, Software, and Healthcare.

In the Hardware module, CKPower focuses on the reconstruction of village areas, prioritising land distribution, housing, and infrastructure improvements, such as street lighting powered by 900 watts of clean energy, resulting in a reduction of 1,971 kgCO2e in greenhouse gas emissions per year. Additionally, the project includes agricultural development, healthcare facilities, schools, markets, and enhanced security.

At the community level, CKPower extends its commitment to education through programs in schools, providing knowledge on renewable energy and sustainable energy transition approaches, such as the use of solar-powered systems in educational institutions.

"While we deploy world-class technology and eco-friendly innovation to generate electricity, we also uplift communities by preserving their heritage and wisdom, such as handicrafts and fabric weaving," announced Tuangporn Bunyasaranand, Assistant Managing Director of Corporate Communication and Sustainability Management at CKPower Public Company Limited, during the UN Global Compact Network Thailand Forum 2023, themed "Lead everyone forward, leave no one behind."

The Software module encompasses skill development for local residents, including food processing, salon training, animal husbandry, and waste reduction programs, fostering community engagement and value creation.

"To lead everyone forward, we must employ concrete operational approaches with dynamic and measurable frameworks. The exceptional socioeconomic indicators include job creation, infrastructure development, and access to services. In 2021, CKPower achieved remarkable results, with every household's income surpassing the poverty line," Tuangporn Bunyasaranand added.

In addition to Hardware and Software, Healthcare plays a crucial role in fostering sustainability among communities. CKPower provides annual health check-ups for residents in the areas where they operate, ensuring that business activities and renewable transitions do not compromise the health of the local population.

CKPower's ultimate goal is to become one of the region's largest renewable electricity producers with a minimal carbon footprint. Through their commitment to renewable energy and improving the quality of life in communities, CKPower has delivered substantial benefits, reaching over 730 children in 12 communities through outreach programs and providing 34,030 watts of renewable energy, resulting in a reduction of 53,476 kgCO2e/year in greenhouse gas emissions.

"This initiative's primary goal is for CKPower to achieve Net Zero GHG emissions by 2050. Key tasks to achieve this goal include reducing energy consumption, expanding investment in renewable energy, improving energy generation efficiency, and increasing forest and green areas for GHG sequestration. The power of communities is a significant force for Thailand to attain sustainability goals," concluded Tuangporn Bunyasaranand, Assistant Managing Director of Corporate Communication and Sustainability Management at CKPower Public Company Limited.
