Laos will introduce a new air link between Savannakhet and Bangkok next month to attract tourists during a campaign to visit the country this year.
Lao Airlines will operate three flights a week between Savannakhet, which is opposite Mukdahan, and the Thai capital from March 15, the Vientiane Times on Friday quoted a senior official of the airline as saying.
The new route of the national carrier will promote tourism during Visit Laos Year this year, said Chanthanom Khampheng, deputy director of the carrier’s commercial and marketing department.
Thai travellers are among the top tourists visiting Laos. Luang Prabang is one of their favourite destinations and getting there has become easier with the launch of the high-speed railway line from Vientiane to the Chinese border via the old capital.
The country expects Visit Laos Year 2024 to attract 4.6 million foreign tourists, according to the Chinese news agency Xinhua. It said arrivals in 2023 were estimated to have reached at least 2.9 million.
