What’s New for the Thailand Elite Visa in 2024

New updates to Thailand’s premier long-term visa option: Thailand Privilege Elite Visa, the easiest and most rewarding way to stay in the Kingdom

What’s New About Thailand Privilege Visa Memberships

A Thailand Privilege membership along with the Thailand Elite Visa provides a long-term visa that’s easier to obtain than just about every other long-term Thai visa.

These memberships offer more than just a simple way to get a lengthier stay in the country, though. Members also gain exclusive access to exciting benefits and perks designed to enhance their experience while living in and traveling throughout the country. This list of benefits, which dwarfs the benefits offered by the old Thailand Elite Visa membership, includes discounts at retail outlets and fine dining establishments, free hotel stays, wealth management services, medical treatments, and much, much more.

To cater to different needs of applicants, the Thai Privilege program includes 4 distinct membership tiers:

    • Middle East: Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine, Syria, Yemen

2. Contacting a General Sales and Services Agent (GSSA)

To guarantee the swiftest and smoothest application process possible, applicants should consult a General Sales and Services Agent (GSSA). GSSAs are government-authorised organisations that guide applicants through their applications and provide invaluable information and assistance. They are also fully subsidised by the Thai government, meaning all their services are free.

To begin, applicants should contact a GSSA to receive a detailed overview of the packages and a checklist highlighting all the documents required. Alternatively, applicants can book an appointment with the GSSA so they can review their application in person and help prepare it for submission. By enlisting a GSSA to handle the submission process, prospective members ensure their application is error-free to minimise any risk of delays and rejections. In addition, the GSSA does most of the work on behalf of the applicant, lifting any burden from them.

3. Collecting all required documents

Applicants will need to present the following documentation:

  • Membership Application Form (completed and signed)
  • Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) Form (signed)
  • Membership Application Fee Payment Form (completed and signed)
  • Copy of the applicant’s passport biopage*
  • Recent passport-sized photograph of the applicant**
  • Any additional documentation (if required)***

*NOTE: The photocopy must be presented in colour with the passport signature on full display. If the biopage lacks a valid signature, the applicant must add a copy of their passport signature page. If the applicant is applying within Thailand, they must also provide a photocopy of their latest visa.

**NOTE: Applicants can take the photo themselves or ask a GSSA to do it for them. The photo must be in colour and taken against a white background (the GSSA will provide the required photo dimensions).

***NOTE: Applicants including their family members must also submit their equivalent documents and proof of relationship documents (such as a marriage certificate or birth certificate). If the applicant has a current or previous ED Visa, they must complete and include the Education Visa Holder Acknowledgement Form.

Before the GSSA can submit the application, the applicant needs to pay a 50,000 THB fixed application fee. However, this amount will be deducted from the final membership fee upon a successful background check, so it’s more of a deposit. Post-submission, the GSSA will also share with the applicant their login details for the Thailand Privilege Online Portal, where they can log in to track their application.

4. Completing a successful background check

To ensure there are no complications, the GSSA will conduct a meticulous review of the application before submitting it to the Thai government to launch a compulsory background check. A Thai immigration officer will be assigned to assess the prospective member’s application packet and review their background history. Applicants who match all eligibility requirements and have no errors in their application will pass easily. This stage of the application lasts 4 to 6 weeks on average.

5. Paying the membership fee

Upon successfully passing their background assessment, applicants will receive payment instructions and an approval letter from the Thai government. They will have a time frame of 30 days to follow the payment instructions and pay their membership fee directly to Thailand Privilege Card Co., Ltd. Failure to do so voids the application and surrenders the application fee.

6. Affixing the visa

Once their payment has been made, the final step is for applicants to affix their new visa to their passport, which can be started the moment they receive the welcome letter and membership ID (these are issued within 5 to 10 days of paying the membership fee). Before affixing the visa, applicants must book an appointment by contacting the Member Contact Center.
There are three locations where the applicant can affix their visa:

  • Royal Thai Consulate or Thai Embassy (if applying abroad)
  • Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, Chiang Mai or Phuket International Airport (if flying into Thailand)
  • Thai immigration office on Chaeng Wattana Road (if applying inside Thailand)

While there is no deadline for affixing the Thailand Elite Visa, applicants should note that the date their membership ID has been issued is also the date their membership term commences.
