Evolution DC Thailand Co has partnered with International Gateway Company Ltd (IGC), Thailand's leading telecom network provider, to open a data centre to enhance the competitiveness of Thai businesses in the fast-growing artificial intelligence (AI) era.

Evolution DC Thailand is a joint venture between Central Pattana Plc (CPN) and Evolution Data Centres, a data centre provider in Southeast Asia.

The collaboration is expected to strengthen the country's digital infrastructure and create a secure and progressive digital economy in Thailand, said Phoom Chirathivat, head of alternative investments at CPN.

"Our partnership with IGC will help to unlock the full potential of our data centre project 'Evolution DC Thailand' and provide support for the development of robust digital infrastructure in Thailand," said Mr Phoom.

The deal aligns with CPN's "Ecosystem for All" concept that supports partnerships to achieve sustainable growth and allows for new opportunities in the country's economy, he said.

The data centre project is designed to prioritise efficiency, sustainability and responsible growth, said Mr Phoom.

Located in Bang Na, construction of the first phase of the data centre project is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2025, he said.

Darren Webb, chief executive of Evolution Data Centres, said the collaboration will help create much-needed infrastructure to support Thailand's digital population.

IGC's high-speed fibre connectivity is important for the data centre project as it will connect hyperscale and corporate customers to Thailand's digital ecosystem and global networks.

"This marks a significant milestone in Thailand's data centre development and with expertise from the three companies, we aim to develop advanced and sustainable data centres in Southeast Asia," said Mr Webb.

Pichit Satapattayanont, chief executive of IGC, said the company's expertise in telecom equipment, internet service and efficient fibre-optical network transmission system to connect to the new data centre will help strengthen Thailand's digital landscape.

The network infrastructure of the data centre will seamlessly integrate with IGC's main network, adding confidence about connections both in Thailand and nearby regions, he said.

"The development enhances the efficiency of secure data exchange and connectivity services, which will boost users' confidence and aligns with Thailand's digital transformation policy," said Mr Pichit.
