The dissolution of the House of Representatives announced by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Monday morning would only solve the political situation in the short-term, Nipon Poapongsakorn, a distinguished fellow at the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI), said.
"I have to praise the prime minister for her decision to dissolve the House because it shows that the government is starting to listen to the people's voices and it does not want violence and loss of lives," Mr Nipon said.
The think-tank economist suggested the government work on political reform with different groups, including the opposition and the general public. The government should set up a committee comprising individuals who are politically neutral and accepted by society to overcome the crisis, he added.
