PCS shifts focus to health care

Property Care Services (Thailand) or PCS, the country's largest facilities management company, will shift its focus to the healthcare segment next year, as the industrial sector, one of the company's main customers, has downsized and relocated to other destinations after the great flood in 2011.

Managing director Thana Thiramanus said the biggest drop in the number of customers in the industrial sector was in Ayutthaya, which was badly hit by the flood.

The province's proportion declined to 30% since last year from 40% of its total ports before 2012.

"Most factories that downsized and relocated to other provinces were large customers," Mr Thana said.

"We need to seek new customers in the North such as in Chiang Mai, Lamphun and Lampang to replace the ones we lost."

In 2015, it will tap new factory customers in Prachin Buri's Kabin Buri district and Rayong province as industrial estates in the two eastern provinces are expanding.

Currently, the industrial sector is the company's largest customer base, accounting for 30%. As it will tap the healthcare segment next year, the industrial sector will drop to 25% while health care rises to 30%.

The company's healthcare customer base now totals more than 40 hospitals with a combined 12,390 beds and annual growth of 20-30%.

The company expects to see a 20% rise next year.

The industrial and healthcare sectors are followed by commercial buildings (20%), education (10%) and others including residential, hospitality, retail and government (15%).

Due to the unfavourable economy and political instability this year, the company expects to achieve revenue of 6.8 billion baht, growth of only 8% from last year and lower than the target of 10%.

PCS aims at an increase of 10% in revenue next year to 7.48 billion baht, achieving 10 billion baht in the next three years.

Mr Thana said the healthcare business had high potential with its market value of more than 100 billion baht.

A survey last year by LH Bank found 336 private hospitals with a combined 33,698 beds nationwide.
