The Digital Government Development Agency (DGA), formerly the Electronic Government Agency (EGA), has outlined a two-year road map to drive all state agencies toward digital governance by 2020.
The road map encompasses seven functions set to ensure a full digital government transformation.
Sak Segkhoonthod, president and chief executive, said those functions are: government data exchange, one-stop service, government data centres, open government data, unified government communication, secure government intranet, and digital transformation programmes.
The government data exchange focuses on creating proactive state data management and connectivity, as well as helping people when they apply for public services electronically.
Mr Sak said implementation will start in August, and people will not need to bring copies of their ID cards or house registration when they contact state agencies.
"The prime minister called for this change to be enacted by August," he said.
The president said the DGA will develop a mobile application to monitor the work and services of state agencies, so people can directly inform it when they have been asked to provide copied documents by state agencies.
"Under the digital government procedure, state agencies and services will [operate] with less paperwork," he said.
Apart from government data exchange, Mr Sak said the one-stop service unit, government data centre and open government data are critical functions.
By 2019, DGA plans to announce development of national open data sets in phase one, with 300-500 data sets developed to serve the public and private sectors.
DGA has been training state officers for years, and the agency is now seeking and developing data scientists to serve as state officers who can do big data analytics.
The seven-year-old EGA was recently renamed DGA in compliance with a decree on its establishment, which was announced in the Royal Gazette on May 14.
DGA was transferred to operate under the Office of the Prime Minister.
