Eight leading firms are competing for concessions to run duty-free shops and develop commercial spaces at Suvarnabhumi airport, Airports of Thailand (AoT) president Nitinai Sirismatthakarn says.

The Central Department Store Company Limited, King Power Duty Free, Minor International, Bangkok Airways Plc Co and the Royal Orchid Sheraton (Thailand) are vying for the contract to operate the duty-free shops at the country's main airport.

Minor International, along with Central Pattana Plc Co, King Power Suvarnabhumi and The Mall Group, are also looking to invest in the development of commercial spaces at the airport.

Mr Nitinai said the bid submission deadline is on May 22, with results to be announced on May 31.

Both concessions run for 10 years starting from September next year.
