National Legislative Assembly president Pornpetch Wichitcholchai has ordered an investigation into an audio clip in which a speaker claims Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha was not happy with the candidate telecom regulators, all of them subsequently rejected by NLA.

Mr Pornpetch said on Monday he had set up a five-member inquiry panel headed by NLA member Chatchawal Suksomjit. The others were NLA member Suchart Trakulkasemsek and three relevant officials of the parliament.

The panel would have 30 days to decide if the audio clip was genuine or doctored, whose voices were on it and who recorded the conversation, Mr Pornpetch said.

If the clip was doctored, legal action would be taken.

The panel would not question the prime minister because the prime minister had already denied his involvement. Gen Prayut was not speaking in the clip, only his name was mentioned, Mr Pornpetch said.

He insisted the conversation was not from any meeting of the NLA whips.

Mr Pornpetch also said the NLA was not ordered to reject all candidates for the new National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission.
