AIS Play targeted over World Cup broadcasts

TrueVisions Group has reaffirmed its intention to petition the court to terminate unauthorised live broadcasts of the World Cup via the AIS Play mobile application.

TrueVisions announced it will again petition the Intellectual Property and International Trade Central Court regarding the recent appeal by Advanced Info Service (AIS) to broadcast certain World Cup 2018 matches via the AIS Play application on mobile and other devices without seeking advanced permission from TrueVisions and Fifa.

A previous court order instructed AIS to terminate such broadcasts as of 5pm on June 28, 2018.

TrueVisions Group has notified the court of its intention to supervise live broadcast activity of World Cup 2018 in Thailand to avoid copyright infringements and comply with Fifa's conditions.

The company has asked the court to consider reissuing a court order to halt live broadcasting of these matches by the AIS Play application on mobile and other devices since permission has not been granted by TrueVisions Group and Fifa.

AIS's broadcasts could be subject to possible lawsuits from Fifa and affect future World Cup broadcast rights, said TrueVisions.

The company's petition to seek the court order to suspend AIS Play's live broadcasting of the sports event is for the application (mobile and other devices) only, and does not affect AIS Play box, which is eligible to broadcast the World Cup 2018 to the public via designated free TV channels.
