Magnolia Quality Development Corporation's light show was on display to celebrate a season of joy and togetherness for both Bangkokians and international visitors.

The world's most popular city destination, Bangkok, drew more than 780,000 visitors over the 2017 New Year period, up 30% from last year.

One attraction during the period was "Beautiful Bangkok by Magnolias @Ratchaprasong", a 3D projection-mapping performance incorporating a special New Year's Eve countdown with a focus on Thai culture, bringing thousands to the Ratchaprasong district of the city.

Ratchaprasong has evolved over time to its current position as the city's heart, soul and premier centre for shopping, hospitality, business and tourism, said Visit Malaisirirat, chief executive of Magnolia Quality Development Corporation (MQDC).

"Visitor spending helped to boost tourism revenue and the economic growth of the city," he said.

"We're delighted to have been able to present our contribution to the city during the Christmas and New Year season."

The lighting performance embodied Thai character and cultural pride, said Mr Visit.

The show highlighted Bangkok's status as an international destination for leisure and business travellers, as well as for luxury property investors, he said.

The capital city of Thailand welcomed a record 19.4 million visitors in 2016, more than London (19.06 million), Paris (15.5 million) or Dubai (14.9 million), and Bangkok is expected to host nearly 20.2 million tourists in 2017, according to Mastercard's annual list.

"We expect visitor numbers in the Ratchaprasong area, where our super-luxury mixed-use development is located, to increase by about 30% from 600,000 visitors to 780,000 during the Greeting Festival as they came to shop, celebrate the countdown and see the stunning 3D light art installation," said Mr Visit.

"Many will have returned home to cities like Hong Kong and Singapore after appreciating the relative value here and may consider Bangkok as an option for investing in property or starting a business."

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, foreign and Thai tourists are expected to have spent some 15.6 billion baht from Dec 29 to Jan 2, 2018.

New Year's Eve in Bangkok marks the closure of a year in which he hopes Bangkok will be positioned as a true alternative to other premier regional cities, as well as a top destination for investment in property and business.

Magnolias Ratchadamri Boulevard is a mixed-use luxury project with a theme inspired by magnolia flowers.

The development encompasses 316 luxury residence units in its 60-storey tower, plus office areas and the five-star Waldorf Astoria Bangkok hotel, the first branch of Hilton's flagship brand in Southeast Asia.

Magnolias Ratchadamri Boulevard is being positioned as a prime investment opportunity in Thailand's luxury property sector.
