Tourism plan unwrapped

The Tourism Department has announced its 2018-21 tourism development strategy in an effort to combine forces among state agencies and stakeholders and boost growth in the country's already-booming tourism sector.

Anan Wongbenjarat, director-general of the department, said the four-year strategy is necessary to prepare the country for an increasing flow of visitors from around the world and to maintain effective management throughout tourism chains to achieve sustainable growth.

In line with Thailand's 20-year national strategy for 2017-36, the 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan for 2017-21, and the second National Tourism Development Plan for 2017-21, the latest tourism development strategy focuses on the participation of all stakeholders to reach shared goals, Mr Anan said.

The four-year tourism development strategy provides guidelines for the development of tourism goods and services throughout the tourism supply chain, he said.

As the main state agency for tourism development, the department will focus on human resources development and improving digital technology to serve visitors and the tourism industry more effectively.
