K-pop girl group star Lisa has joined the coveted rankings of YouGov's international survey of the world's most admired women for the first time.

Lalisa "Lisa" Manobal of Blackpink, the only Thai member of the hit South Korean band, jumped straight in at No.17 in this year's online survey that polled 42,000 people in 38 countries and territories. A list of the most popular men was also released. Other new additions to the list of women include Chinese-American actress Liu Yifei (18th), Chinese actress and singer Yang Mi (19th) and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern (20th).

Barack Obama retained his position as the world's most admired man, having wrested the title from long-time incumbent Bill Gates, who again ranked second this year. Chinese President Xi Jinping ranked third, followed by footballing icon Cristiano Ronaldo and movie star Jackie Chan.

Former first lady Michelle Obama likewise holds on to her position as the world's most admired woman for the third year running. Angelina Jolie was listed second, followed by Queen Elizabeth II, Oprah Winfrey and Scarlett Johansson.

The results are calculated from a combination of two questions -- whether a respondent admires the person, and whether that person ranks as their most admired person. In the interests of fairness, each nation's results are weighted in relation to the size of its population.

YouGov is an international research data and analytics group based in the United Kingdom.
