JUNE 15

The Flash

Directed by Andy Muschietti.

Who’s in it?

Sasha Calle, Ben Affleck and Ezra Miller.

What’s it about?

Barry Allen is struck by a bolt of lightning and thus, an extraordinary power is born inside him: The Speed Force. When he uses this power to run back in time and save his mother, he creates a world without heroes and General Zod has returned. To defeat him, his only hope rest in the hands of a retired Batman, another Barry and an imprisoned kryptonian.

Why watch it?

The film will reportedly ignore the events of “Batman Forever” (1995) and “Batman & Robin” (1997) and come up with new stories about Michael Keaton's Batman to fill the gap between “Batman Returns” (1992) and this film.

Poo-Baow-Tai-Ban-Awasarn

Directed by Uthen Sririwi.

What’s it about?

Three years after Pranee ran away with a foreign boyfriend, Thongkam hopes that Pranee will come back. Thongkam meets Pen, a Thai woman who went to study in Bangkok and completed her bachelor's degree, and all his friends urge him to flirt with the girl.

Adipurush

Directed by Om Raut.

Kriti Sanon, Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan.

What’s it about?

Adaptation of Indian mythology that depicts the triumph of good over evil, based on "The Ramayana" by sage Valmiki, which is a Sanskrit epic from ancient India and one of the two important epics of Hinduism, known as the “itihasas” (history), the other being the “Mahabharata” compiled by Ved Vyasa.

Why watch it?

Adipurush is one of the most important literary works of ancient India, the “Ramayana” has had a profound impact on art and culture in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia with the lone exception of Vietnam.

The Round: Up No Way Out

Directed by Sang-yong Lee.

Lee Jun-hyuk, Munetaka Aoki, Ma Dong-seok

What’s it about?

Seven years after the roundup in Vietnam, Ma Seok-do joins a new squad to investigate a murder case. He soon starts to dig deeper when he finds out the case involves a synthetic drug and a gang of thugs.

Why watch it?

Sequel to last year's The Roundup, the highly entertaining sequel to the surprise hit, The Outlaws, surpassed box office records which quickly warranted another sequel released just after a year

What’s it about?

In June 2020, Property Management Office Chulalongkorn University ordered to relocate the Tubtim Shrine to build condos. Including suing for damages of B4.6 billion, the court’s administrator led to the hashtag #saveChaoMaeThapthimShrine and a movement to protect the last breath of the historic area by neighbourhood residents and students.

A documentary that’s unlike any other.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Directed by John Cameron Mitchell.

John Cameron Mitchell, Miriam Shor and Stephen Trask.

What’s it about?

Hedwig, born male as Hansel in East Berlin, falls in love with an American G.I. and underwent a gender reassignment surgery in order to marry him and flee to the West. Unfortunately, nothing worked out quite as it was supposed to. Years later, Hedwig is leading her rock band on a tour of the US, telling her life story through a series of concerts at Bilgewater Inn seafood restaurants. Her tour dates coincide with those of arena-rock star Tommy Gnosis, a wide-eyed boy who once loved Hedwig — but then left with all her songs.

Why watch it?

The story depicted in the song "Origin of Love" is from Plato's “Symposium”, in which Aristophanes gives a speech about love being a product of the need to reunite with one's other half after being split into two, as punishment for conspiring to usurp the gods of Olympus.
