New releases that hit Thai cinemas for your viewing pleasure.

Idolish7 Live 4Bit Beyond

Directed by Hiroshi Nishikiori.

What’s it about?

An anime concert film with performances of “Pieces Of The World” from different idol units like the eponymous Idolish 7, Trigger, Re:vale and Źooļ. All the voice cast members from previous anime series and games are reprising their roles for the film. 

Why watch it?

The first two seasons of IDOLiSH7 aired in 2018 and 2020 and is based on the 2015 Idolish 7 rhythm adventure game for iOS and Android. The franchise has also inspired numerous light novel, manga, and music CD releases.

Dubsangrawee (After Sundown)

Directed by Bhandit Thongdee.

Who’s in it?

Pruk Panich, Chawarin Perdpiriyawong, Anyarin Terathananpat, Surasak Chaiat, Adisorn Athakrit, Meenay Jutai, Krittanai Asanprakit and Napatsakorn Pingmuang.

What’s it about?

The story of Phloeng and Rawi who get engaged to avoid misfortune as predicted by a fortune teller. The two reluctantly agree on the condition that they would call it off after six months if their relationship doesn’t progress. However, as Rawi stays with Phloeng’s family, he continually gets haunted by a spirit. The haunting stops only when he begins staying with Phloeng. Soon, they find out that the spirit is entirely after Rawi. 

Why watch it?

A romantic horror period movie based on a popular online nove, “Dubsangrawee” (roughly translated to “Extinguish The Light”) by CEO.

Barbie

Directed by Greta Gerwig.

Who’s in it?

Margot Robbie, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Ryan. Gosling.

What’s it about?

Barbie suffers a crisis that leads her to question her world and her existence.

Why watch it?

If you actually need a reason: According to Gosling, he accepted the role of Ken after seeing his daughter's Ken doll lying face down in the mud next to a squished lemon. He then took a shot of the doll and lemon and sent it to Gerwig, saying, "I shall be your Ken, his story must be told."

Oppenheimer

Directed by Christopher Nolan.

Who’s in it?

Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt and Matt Damon.

What’s it about?

The story of American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer and his role in the development of the atomic bomb.

Why watch it?

In order for the black & white sections of the movie to be shot in the same quality as the rest of the film, Kodak developed the first ever B&W film stock for Imax.


HOUSE SAMYAN

Duck Academy

Directed by Suriyon Jongleepun.

Who’s in it?

Hugh Timothy Brammar and Somnuek Chusi.

What’s it about?

Thousands of ducks, one farmer and an ultimate goal to produce chemical-free rice. Against all odds, a determined farmer in Thailand trained ducks to be “rice protectors”. Together, they join hands (and wings) in the pursuit of sustainable farming.

Why watch it?

Amusing, adorable, yet informative, viewers will fall in love watching man and ducks, teacher and students, work together to keep our food safe from harmful chemicals.
