The Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra will give a concert to mark the 91st birthday of HM Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, in the Main Hall of Thailand Cultural Centre, Ratchadaphisek Road, on Saturday at 7.30pm.

Conducted by German maestro Christian Kunert, the uplifting programme will be full of vitality. It will begin with Richard Wagner's majestic overture to Die Meistersinger Von Nürnberg.

Joining the orchestra as a guest soloist will be Bulgarian virtuoso Emile Naoumoff, who will perform Edvard Grieg's iconic Piano Concerto In A Minor. The evening will conclude with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's equally brilliant and life-affirming Symphony No.4 In F Minor.

Hailed as a truly great modern concert pianist, Naoumoff revealed himself as a musical prodigy aged five, taking up the piano and adding composition to his studies a year later. At the age of seven, he was the last disciple of Nadia Boulanger, the most influential mentor of the greatest composers of the 20th century.

He's currently a professor of music and piano at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, one of the most illustrious educational institutions in the world.

After an impressive early career as a bassoonist, Kunert turned to dedicate himself to conducting, having led the Harvestehuder Sinfonieorchester Hamburg since 2017. He established his reputation in Asia after he was appointed as chief conductor and artistic director of the HeFai City Symphony Orchestra in China last September.

He made a successful debut with the RBSO in March this year, making a very positive impression on both the audience and RBSO musicians, resulting in this eagerly anticipated return visit.

Tickets cost 600, 1000, 1,500, 2,000 and 2,500 baht (half prices for students and seniors aged 60 and above) and can be purchased from thaiticketmajor.com.
