Summer Sonic makes Thailand debut in August

Summer Sonic is a recognised name among global music festivals. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin opened the Government House on Wednesday to host the announcement of the inaugural Summer Sonic Bangkok as a gesture of commitment to promote Thailand's soft power.

Founded in 2000 in Japan by CEO of Creativeman Productions Naoki Shimizu, Japan's biggest music event has drawn music fans from around the world to flock to Japan every August for two days of music fest held in Osaka and Chiba with line-ups so diverse that attendees get both instantly recognisable names like Blur and Liam Gallagher from the UK, as well as rising star Luav from the across the pond. Megastars like Coldplay, Beyonce, Rihanna and Taylor Swift all have graced Summer Sonic (but they're probably too cool for it by now).

The Thai edition of Summer Sonic is scheduled for Aug 24-25 at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani, featuring international and local artists. The first batch of the headliners includes Japanese duo Yoasobi, American singer-songwriter Lauv, Norwegian singer-songwriter Aurora, British rock band Nothing But The Thieves, British pop singer Henry Moodie, Thai rock band Bodyslam, Thai rapper F.Hero and Thai-Belgian singer-songwriter Violette Wautier.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that more big names will be added to Bangkok's line-up to ensure Bangkok will have enough draw power to attract visitors, who will not only fly here for the music and other attractions Thailand has to offer, too.

This year also marks a pivotal moment for Summer Sonic as it expands beyond Japan for the first time (discounting the one-off Shanghai edition back in 2017). Stay tuned for the announcement of more headliners and tickets will be available soon. Check out Summer Sonic Bangkok's Facebook for updates.
