ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

The National Gallery presents "Passion", an exhibition by Israeli artist Gabi Benzano, who explores his most beloved classical landscape _ the female form.

In his artworks, the desirable female leads him from a carefully thought-out sketch to one that almost draws itself _ from the two-dimensional medium of a rectangular sheet of paper to a three-dimensional wall exhibit; from a basic line lacking materiality, physicality and tangibility to deep indentations etched into thick oils on canvas.

His works also include delicate brass wires portraying an image as fragile as an item of jewellery; a sketch encapsulating space, light and movement; and a drawing of conciliation, entertainment and enjoyment.

Benzano's works range from the minimalistic and abstract to neo-expressionist, from the reserved and abrupt to the temperamental and aggressive, from struggle and suffering to refinement and elegance.

"Passion" will be on display at the National Gallery from Thursday to July 29. The opening is on Thursday at 6pm. The gallery is located on Chao Fa Road and is open Wed-Sun from 9am-4pm. Contact the Embassy of Israel in Bangkok on 02-204-9237.
