The Rising Star Dance Studio is winding up the windmills for a full-length production of the much-loved ballet Don Quixote.

Rising Star Dance Studio’s Don Quixote will be staged at M Theatre on May 18 and 19 at 2.30pm.

The production will be staged at M Theatre on New Phetchaburi Road on May 18 and 19 at 2.30pm.

Don Quixote is one of the world's most famous ballets. It is based on the novel by Miguel de Cervantes and set to the music of Leon Minkus. It was first performed to this music in 1869 in Moscow.

Rising Star's director Fay Pansringarm has choreographed her own rendition based on the American Ballet Theatre's staging of the original Marius Petipa version.

She brings many years of experience as a ballet dancer, director and choreographer in New York City to her work in Bangkok and she incorporates the charm of younger dancers along with the powerful performances of professionals for the upcoming two-act ballet.

The cast features more than 125 dancers from over 25 nationalities, aged from four years old to adults, and currently studying or teaching at Rising Star Dance Studio.

Dancing the lead role of Kitri will be Maho Mashimo, a former Rising Star student who trained professionally at the prestigious Rock School in the US. Partnering with Maho as Basil is Anurak Ngamta, Thailand's foremost male ballet dancer, who trained in Khon Kaen and has performed in Bangkok musicals and ballets for several years.

Yuko Nakamura, Rising Star's lead ballerina and also associate director, who trained and performed with the San Francisco Ballet Company, will still grace the stage partnered by Thailand's Wasin Somsaising. Pattanon Semrat (assistant choreographer of Thai TV's The Star and the musical Lom Hai Jai) dances as Gamash, the foolish nobleman who wishes to wed Kitri.

Watcharapong Kaewploy, a former dancer with Italy's Teatro Oplas, is Don Quixote and Pallop Namsom is Lorenzo, Kitri's father.

Sancho Panza is danced by Uraiwan Kamawatana, former Southeast Asian Games gold medallist in rhythmic gymnastics and professor at Chulalongkorn University. Featured as the Gypsy Dancer is Carla Rivera, a professional flamenco dancer from Ecuador.
