Index Creative Village and Thai AirAsia are joining hands to hold "Kilo Run 2018", the running festival of food, fun, friends and family.

The event aims to encourage runners to enjoy Bangkok's food and the iconic landmarks of the city at the same time. The run series is scheduled for four races throughout the year, starting with Bangkok and ending with Vietnam's Hanoi. Another two running races will be held in Bali, Indonesia, and Osaka, Japan.

Kicking off in Bangkok from March 24-25 at Lan Khon Muang Plaza, the first running day will include a short course race of 2.6km at a range of beautiful iconic locations around Rattanakosin Island. The route will allow runners to enjoy historic heritage as they will pass through the Grand Palace en route to the City Pillar Shrine, Wat Pho, Wat Suthat and other attractions in Bangkok.

Runners who participate in the first day of the run, known as the KG (Kilogramme) or the Aroi Run, will also enjoy seven signature dishes from the beloved local restaurants.

Featured restaurants include Kopi Hia Tai Gee, a shophouse café that has been open since 1916. Oozing old-school ambience, the old Thai coffee shop serves a choice selection of Thai and Western breakfast alternatives.

The next must-visit restaurant is Lan Fha -- one of the best Hainanese chicken rice stalls in Bangkok for nearly 30 years. Famous dishes served here include Betong chicken and jasmine rice prepared Malaysian style.

Located in the historical Phra Nakhon area of Bangkok, Radna Yod Pak Sood 40 Pee is another street-food restaurant to check out. Its signature dish, prepared from wide rice noodles combined with sweet and salted gravy, pork and kalian is really mouth-watering.

Other restaurants that will be featured that day include the 40-year-old Kuai Chap Nam Khon Matsaya; Udom Pochana, where runners can enjoy delicious curry, beef stew and roasted pork with stream-cooked rice; and the retro-inspired Thai restaurant Err Urban Rustic Thai, serving authentic street food dishes and traditional preserved foods. Finish off the running day with flavourful coconut ice-cream from the half-century-old Nutthaporn Ice Cream.

There are two categories in the race. The KG (Kilogramme) category is a walk-run route. After tasting the selected dishes, runners who have gained weight according to the criteria (0.5kg and 1kg) will receive the special KG medal.

The KM (Kilometre) category includes a Kids Run (2.6km), Fun Run (5.8km) and Mini Marathon (10.8km). Runners will get a chance to experience the culture, architecture and views of iconic attractions along the route.
