ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

To celebrate the relationship between Japan and Thailand, JICA Alumni Association of Thailand and the Gift of Life Foundation present a special performance of Thai and Japanese music by artists from the two countries at Sala Sudasiri Sobha concert hall, Lat Phrao 41, on Sunday Nov 4 at 4pm.

The concert will feature beautiful renditions of well-known Japanese songs such as Subaru, Sukiyaki and Sakura Sakura performed by the great Japanese soprano Yayoi Morita with piano accompaniment by Thai Steinway artist Nat Yontararak.

The programme includes Milhaud's Scaramouche and Momiji & Yuyake Koyake arranged for two pianos, to be performed by Dr Yusuke Komura, chief piano instructor of Siam Music Yamaha in Thailand, and Pana Yontararak, assistant to director of Nat Studio, a piano institute founded by Nat Yontararak.

Also featured in the repertoire will be the compositions by King Rama IX Still On My Mind and Magic Beam.

Morita is an accredited master of the Fujima School of Japanese traditional dance. She has made various appearances in Bangkok where she has been teaching vocal music and piano at her own studio, Lily Music.

Tickets cost 700 baht inclusive of the reception after the concert. Proceeds go towards the Gift of Life Foundation to help patients with financial difficulties, together with the Bone Marrow Transplant Club, Chulalongkorn Hospital.
