To mark World Environment Day on Saturday, Alliance Francaise is presenting an online discussion on "The Importance Of Biodiversity To Human Health" conducted via Zoom and streamed live on Facebook on Alliance Française Bangkok's page on the same day at 6pm.

A collaboration with the Embassy of France, the talk will feature three experts and researchers who will discuss the relationship between human health and biodiversity and answer questions about how protecting the environment could play a role in controlling the spread of infectious diseases.

The speakers include:

  • Serge Morand, a French ecologist, evolutionary biologist and research director at the National Center for Scientific Research. With his expertise in evolutionary ecology of disease transmissions with applications in health ecology and parasitology, Morand is interested in the interconnection between biodiversity and health, particularly zoonotic infectious diseases, food-borne parasites and antimicrobial resistance at human-animal-environment interfaces.
  • Vincent Herbreteau, a researcher at the Institute of Research for Development. He is working to understand the climatic, environmental and social factors that drive spatiotemporal dynamics of diseases to improve surveillance.
  • Dr Kittipong Chaisiri, a lecturer at the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University. Although not working solely with helminths, he views them as important players in answering his questions on diversity and ecological parasitism in a changing environment, diversity of hosts and parasites, and habitats.

The talk will be conducted in English. There is no fee. To register, visit bit.ly/2Tsqhwh or facebook.com/AllianceFrancaiseBangkok.
