Nature and its beauty are the sources of inspiration for the sculptural works being displayed during "Nature As Enlightenment" at Number 1 Gallery, until Aug 28.

Presented by Surachai Donpasri, the exhibition will allow viewers to discover the true meaning of nature through his metal works that imitate beautiful flowers in every detail.

The artist perceives that all natural resources are part of the beautiful environment on this planet. Its beauty is natural and tangible but it's humans who often destroy it and fail to see its value.

His works show how modern technology can affect the growth of plants. He has chosen to use steel and stainless steel as materials for his floral artworks to reflect superficial beauty.

Even though his works show how nourished and cultivated they might look, they are not real plants or made from natural materials. Their beauty might be impressive but, at the same time, it raises questions in the minds of the viewers.

Surachai received a doctorate degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Chiang Mai University. He has exhibited locally and internationally and earned many awards.

Currently, he is an associate professor at the School of Architecture, Art and Design, the Faculty of Architecture at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang.

Number 1 Gallery is on Silom 21. However, due to the Covid-19 situation, the exhibition is open by appointment only.
