As a huge fan of the iconic footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, I was curious to know more about his current partner, the stunningly beautiful Georgina Rodriguez, through Netflix's new release I Am Georgina.

The series, in Spanish with English subtitles, follows the life of Rodriguez, who is a mother, influencer, businesswoman and one of Ronaldo's most serious relationships.

We get to watch the laughter, love and light-hearted humour the couple share. The manner with which they are passionate about family life, their friends and the effort that goes into their careers is also open for public viewing.

The Portuguese superstar has played for major football clubs Real Madrid, Manchester United and Juventus and has millions of followers on his social media accounts.

He is a global brand, and thus whoever comes into his orbit can very likely find themselves becoming the talk of the town. For Rodriguez, who comes from humble beginnings, it has catapulted her to stardom.

The most anticipated moment of the series without a shred of doubt is having Ronaldo share his life in probably the most personal and authentic cameo interviews he has conducted to date.

It is easy to fall into the belief that I Am Georgina is selling a fairy-tale story to the audience where the poor girl meets her handsome prince, thus the ugly truth of reality isn't displayed. While this is true to some extent, it is also what sells to the masses.

For this Spanish stunner, life has changed drastically from a nobody to a seemingly overnight celebrity.

Aside from details of how the couple's love story began, this series showcases the glitz and glamour of what money can buy. Indulging in one's expensive taste or a desire for the high life is given the spotlight.

Through six episodes, the Spanish model takes us on her life journey and how it has transformed in the past five years since the couple met while Rodriguez was working as a sales assistant in a luxury brand store. In her first encounter with Ronaldo, it was love at first sight for both.

During the early stages of their courtship, Rodriguez tells us how she commuted to work on the bus and left in a Bugatti. She was living out something most would only dream about, working at a typical run-of-the-mill job and being picked up by a hot, famous millionaire. Ronaldo had plenty to offer her in terms of glitz, glamour and red carpets.

She is definitely absorbed in a rags to riches lifestyle, wearing, or dare I say flaunting, the very items she once sold to the rich and famous.

The show does seem a bit airbrushed, showcasing the couple's superficially perfect life. There is no mention of rape allegations made against Ronaldo in 2005 and 2009, which were later withdrawn; nor of tensions in Rodriguez's family amid claims from relatives that the model had ostracised them.

The crux of the matter is that much of the objective of the series is to flash Rodriguez's lavish spending. It would have been more worthwhile if they included the couple's philanthropic side, instead of highlighting the materialistically indulging one.

While watching I Am Georgina, one can draw parallels with Keeping Up With The Kardashians. There is a mixture of interviews, fly-on-the-wall documentary and raw footage to keep the audience engaged. On display is how famous people manage their daily lives, including their children and social media accounts, for instance, but nothing so deep as to be meaningful.

While there is little to no beneficial value to such shows, what it does do is keep you entertained. Definitely recommended it you're looking for something fun and easy to watch to pass time.
