"Shadow Theatre" brings viewers into the world of imagination of Spanish artist and designer Jaime Hayon, at Chai Phatthanasilp Building on Charoen Krung Road, daily from 11am to 9pm, until Sunday Feb 13.

Presented by The Standard as part of the ongoing "Bangkok Design Week 2022", the exhibition explores his unique and intriguing vision of a "Circus Fantasy" concept, which comes with a large installation of art pieces inspired by nang talung, a traditional style of shadow puppetry in the South of Thailand, to offer a larger-than-life theatrical landscape of vibrant design and creativity where the ordinary is transformed into the extraordinary.

On showcase is a collection of paintings Hayon has created throughout the past year. The characters and elements are brought back to life through a 3D presentation. "I wanted to use these simplistic yet mesmerising shapes in a way that creates motion and movement to illustrate and express the fantastical world of my art," said Hayon of his imaginative exhibition. Dream-like surrealist-inspired visuals captivate with a sense of playfulness and are perfectly complemented by music curated by The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon, the soon-to-open lifestyle hotel, that selected Hayon to take care of its interior design.

A native of Madrid, the 48-year-old artist first exposed his artistic vision in the "Mediterranean Digital Baroque" and "Mon Cirque" installations which put him at the forefront of a new wave that blurred the lines between art, decoration and design, driving a renaissance in finely-crafted, intricate objects within the context of contemporary design culture.

He established the Hayon Studio, which now has offices in Italy, Spain and Japan, where he continues to explore new and expressive artforms while maintaining a deep respect for artisan skills, finely crafted detail and a passion for play.
