To mark International Jazz Day, the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra and Mahidol University's own faculty jazz band Pomelo Town will present a new orchestral rendition of A Tale From Pomelo Town in a concert at Prince Mahidol Hall, Mahidol University, Salaya campus, Phutthamonthon Sai 4, on Saturday at 4pm.

The epic jazz suite was performed and recorded by Pomelo Town around a decade ago. Originally composed for a jazz septet, it is re-arranged for the orchestra to perform with jazz virtuosi of Pomelo Town.

They include Krit Buranavitayawut (alto saxophone), Darin Pantoomkomol (piano), Noppadol Tirataradol (double bass) and Sarute Wijitwechakarn (drums). Joining them as a guest soloist will be Koh Mr Saxman.

Also featured in the evening programme will be new renditions of Once Upon A Time, The Stranger, Mission and Light. The orchestra will perform under the baton of Pamornpan Komolpamorn.

The concert is to conclude the 13th "Thailand International Jazz Conference (TIJC 2022)", a jazz music event initiated in 2009 by Mahidol University College of Music to present top quality jazz music to the public and also offer jazz education to the interested musicians -- both students and the general public.

Currently running at the university, the event consists of three major elements -- music performance, jazz education activities, and a jazz composition competition, which are open to jazz musicians.

The conference also includes "TIJC Youth Camp", which was initiated in 2020, offering all participants great chances to meet, perform with, and learn from the professional jazz musicians.

Tickets cost 400, 600, 800, 1,000 and 1,500 baht (half price for students under 25 years) and can be purchased from thaiticketmajor.com (call 02-262-3456) or Prince Mahidol Hall (call 02-849-6565 ext 6609).

There is a Salaya Link shuttle bus available at BTS Bang Wa station. For schedule, visit music.mahidol.ac.th/salayalink.
