Following the success of its inaugural portrait competition last year, the second edition of "RCB Portrait Prize" is accepting submissions from across the country until Aug 14.
This is a platform for unknown individuals with amazing abilities to be discovered and recognised for their paintings, preferably a person distinguished in art, literature, science, business, media, civil society or politics.
The competition is open to any artist residing in Thailand for the year of the competition. Each competitor can submit only one painting of any medium -- oil, acrylic, watercolour or mixed media -- not exceeding the size limit of 2.25m².
The portrait must be painted from life, with the subject known to the artist, aware of the artist's intention and having at least one live sitting with the artist. It should also come with a short text of no more than 300 words about who and why the subject is important to the artist.
The judging panel will consist of opinion leaders from across Thai society ranging from businesspersons to art collectors, entrepreneurs, entertainers and philanthropists.
Paintings from all entries and without knowledge of the artist will be selected as finalists to be displayed during the "Portrait Prize" exhibition scheduled from Sept 16 to Oct 30 at River City Bangkok.
The top winner picked by the judges will be awarded the RCB Portrait Prize, worth 500,000 baht. There are also the Packing Room Prize, worth 200,000 baht, chosen by gallery staff who receive, unpack and hang entries; and the People's Choice Prize, worth 100,000 baht, voted for by the public visiting the exhibition.
