Two artists from two generations present artwork from their imaginations that go beyond the mundanity of life in "Out Of This World", which is running at Moca Bangkok, until July 10.
A painting of a family of half-octopus, half-insect creatures roaming an unusual landscape by national artist Tawee Ratchaneekorn, and an illuminating infinity-shaped sculpture made from objects and utensils found in everyday life by Torlarp Larpjaroensook, are among the works on display that remind viewers of science fiction.
Unlike most works in his previous series that often involved issues of social and political landscapes, the 88-year-old Tawee takes a break from issues and lets his imagination expand and explore beyond our planet and its reality.
Seeing society as stagnant, or worse, moving backwards, he envisions the future through a collection of paintings and brass sculptures.
On the contrary, Torlarp, a 45-year-old multidisciplinary artist, searches the past through layers of time and space. For him, history is the foundation of the present and the future, where hope still lingers through custom and belief.
He has chosen to investigate our roots, a recollection of ourselves and our ancestors, through objects and other items of past memories. He believes that in an era of advanced technology and the glitter of interplanetary exploration, hopes and answers may actually lie in the past.
Moca Bangkok is on Kamphaeng Phet 6 Road and opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 6pm.
