Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) recently celebrated its 5 million-unit export milestone in an official ceremony at the Laem Chabang Port.

Thailand is the global production hub for Mitsubishi's 1-tonne pickup trucks to over 120 countries around the world. The Japanese automaker has three assembly plants in Thailand along with an engine plant and a paint shop as well as its first vehicle R&D facility outside of Japan.

Eiichi Koito, president of Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand), said: "The Mitsubishi production centre in Thailand is our largest production facility outside of Japan, exporting vehicles to over 120 countries around the world.

"We remain committed to investing for continued growth in the future, along with supporting Thailand to become a sustainable carbon-neutral society. We have an investment plan to develop new models to enter the market, enhancing vehicle production efficiency, as well as upgrading the company's operation centre to bring solar and renewable energy into use.

"We aim to grow strong alongside the sustainable development of Thai society, by implementing projects to support carbon reduction in various areas across the country and initiating a path towards a sustainable future through the development of electric vehicles."

Mitsubishi Motors Thailand was founded in 1961, and Mitsubishi was the first automaker to export vehicles from Thailand when it shipped out its Lancer passenger cars to Canada in 1988.

Mitsubishi exports from Thailand reached 1 million units in 2007, 2 million units in 2013, 3 million units in 2016 and 4 million units in 2019.
