Good times without the hefty price tag

C.A.L.M. Bar and Guinguette is your next stop if you're looking for a chillout spot after work in Phrom Phong that promises good vibes at a fair price.

Located in a quiet residential neighbourhood on Sukhumvit 31, the bar offers a respite from Bangkok's hustle and bustle. Its name speaks for itself, but the meaning is beyond just the name. "C.A.L.M." is  an abbreviation of the French phrase "comme à la maison", which means "like home", and that's exactly the vibe that bar owners, Leo Sebag and Louis Calderon, are going for.

It's a fitting name for a place that's nestled within the walls of a mid-century house that has been thoughtfully renovated to create a warm and inviting ambience. Coconut leaf roofing with bamboo beams? Tick. Ratten decors and hammocks? Yup. Tropical plants and palm trees? You bet.

The bar's al fresco section has everything I love about a beach club in one place, making you forget that you're in the heart of the city. Taking cues from their homeland, the open-air setting draws inspiration from "guinguette", an outdoor watering hole commonly found in the suburbs of France during the summer.

Equally committed to establishing their new casual hangout spot, Sebag and Calderon provide friendly drink prices. A pint of craft beer on tap starts at B180 and a glass of wine at B190. The bar's signature cocktail menu, crafted by Sebag, starts at B290.

While they plan to expand their food menu, the drinks pair well with Barbecue hanger steak (B590) and a Cheese and cold cut platter (B400). The French must know their fries, right? Do try the Housemade fries (B150).

C.A.L.M. Bar and Guinguette is open from Tuesday to Friday from 4-11pm and 1-11pm on weekends. Go to ig.com/calm.bk.
