A bathhouse. A place for a romantic encounter. A community space. A gay sauna can also be a gallery that consolidates sexual and artistic experiences. Located in the heart of Phra Khanong, Krubb Bangkok is showcasing a photographer's collection of erotic artwork that explores the taboo subject of sexual expression and healing.

"BoyxTherapy" is a solo exhibition by Shotbyly, or Patthakarn "Mel" Sadubtham, who spent a year producing retro artwork by using digital photography and film editing techniques. It is curated by Patpong "Oat" Montien, a renowned artist and founder of Bodhisattva Gallery, the country's first queer art space.

"It is immersive in that a visitor to the sauna can feel sexual desire and enjoy erotic art," said a manager for Krubb Bangkok.

Each set of photos has been installed on each floor of the building. In the lobby, Reincarnation is said to be a masterpiece. Patthakarn took the photo of a naked man who set himself free in the water, probably a symbol of rebirth, in Phayao's forest. The scene evokes old magazines that depict porn models in the woods.

The highlight is on the 3rd floor where artwork is nailed to the wall of a small gym. Two photos portray a person's fantasy of an imaginary partner in a dim-lit background. Interestingly, they are surrounded by gay magazines from the 1980s that feature a map of gay saunas, firsthand accounts and pen pal letters.

The upper floors are adult playgrounds where electronic devices are not allowed. Photos explore sexual preferences that are not discussed in public. On the rooftop, two images of naked models overlook a pool. Without showing faces, they lie on their stomach and back in the water, implying a secret relationship that comes and goes.

"BoyxTherapy" is currently on view at Krubb Bangkok from 2pm to midnight until July 14.
