To demonstrate its dedication to enhancing the SEA communities, C Asean recently hosted the Asean Matariki Night 2023 to emphasise the cultural connections between the Maori and Thai Song Dam ethnic groups, which can serve as a foundation for increased economic, social and cultural collaboration and eventually contribute to the growth of the ethnic communities.

As part of the Common Culture Heritage "Maori & Thai Song Dam" project, it's collective efforts between the New Zealand Embassy, the New Zealand Asean Business Alliance and the Southeast Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence to foster sustainable learning through creative exchange.

The Common Culture Heritage "Maori & Thai Song Dam" exhibition, special talks and a gala dinner were all part of the event, which was held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.

Guests included HE Jonathan Kings, the New Zealand ambassador to Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia, and Prof Siah Hwee Ang, the director of the Southeast Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence.

The effort emphasises the uniqueness of each ethnic group to encourage individuals from all backgrounds to engage in cultural exchange, decrease inequity and build a greater understanding of one another. By passionately embracing their cultural legacy and promoting stability and sustainability in their way of life, people can contribute to the development of a robust economy and society. The Thai Song Dam ethnic groups have resided in several places in Thailand, and efforts have been undertaken to develop local tourism and community economy. The development of cultural attractions has consequently helped the Thai Song Dam Ban Khao Yoi community in Phetchaburi and the Thai Song Dam Ban Wang Nam community in Kamphaeng Phet.

ThaiBev gives priority to artistic and cultural development to bring Thainess to the world and create and share the values of growth. In this endeavour, the company strives to continue, preserve and build upon existing cultural legacies.

Recognising the striking similarity between the culture of the Maori people and that of the Thai Song Dam community, ThaiBev has taken steps to foster mutual understanding and create awareness of both cultures on an international scale.

HE Jonathan Kings.
