Ikea Sukhumvit opens Dec 1

Dubbed the first Ikea city store in Southeast Asia, Ikea Sukhumvit will open its door on Dec 1 on the third floor of The Emsphere, marking the 12th year of Ikea in Thailand (and serving countless condos along the busy road).

The new store, Ikea's fourth Thai location, spans 12,000m² and follows similar layouts of its predecessors in Bang Na and Bang Yai, which opened in 2011 and 2017, respectively.

Existing Ikea enthusiasts would know the drill. Walking on a winding route starting from the showroom, passing through different departments, optionally stopping by the restaurant before checking out. However, the Sukhumvit store comes with a few twists of its own.

Self-claimed to be the biggest furniture store in Bangkok, the Sukhumvit store aims to address the diverse needs and lifestyles of the urbanites through a wide range of home-furnishing solutions, boasting over 8,254 products, with about half of them available for you to buy and take home yourself.

Centrally located and can be reached through the Phrom Phong skywalk, the Sukhumvit store is divided into four zones. These include the Showroom zone designed specifically to give interior inspiration, and Market Hall with more than 3,000 items in the same categories as those found in Bang Na and Bang Yai. Also included are the Self-serve warehouse (albeit on a smaller scale) with more than 300 items to buy and take home, as well as the As-is corner and the restaurant.

The restaurant is worth another mentioning as it commands a panoramic view of Benchasiri Park. There are 530 seats for visitors to unwind, enjoy the greenery in the heart of the city, and indulge in their favourite Swedish cuisine without paying a pretty penny. The menu will also include three new dishes exclusively available at the Sukhumvit location during the launch period.

The other unique offerings at the new store include same-day delivery within an 8km radius using an electric delivery vehicle, a special collection called Aurtiende, food ordering via kiosks, self-checkout kiosks and more. Aurtiende celebrates Ikea's fourth location and comprises T-shirts, hoodies, hats and bags.

What's also interesting is the Sukhumvit Collection, which is sold exclusively at the new store. It comprises canvas totes of several variants, socks, cute pins in the shape of Ikea iconic items and colourful lanyards. Ikea stans should definitely check them out.
