The Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra will perform its final symphonic concert of the 2023 season in the Main Hall of Thailand Cultural Centre, Ratchadaphisek Road, on Saturday at 7.30pm.

Titled "Orient Et Occident", the programme is a combination of two world premieres by leading contemporary Thai composers Prof Narongrit Dhamabutra and Vanich Potavanich, and three classics of the French repertoire.

English conductor Douglas Bostock will make a welcome return to direct the orchestra for this concert. He will begin with La Princesse Jaune Overture by Camille Saint-Saëns, a work infused with the spirit of Japanese exoticism; and conclude with César Franck's imposing Symphony In D Minor, a masterpiece brimming with Gallic charm.

Bostock has appeared at numerous prestigious international venues and festivals. He is one of the last private students of the legendary conductor Sir Adrian Boult and has amassed immense experience working with the world's leading ensembles including London Philharmonic, the BBC orchestras, and the Royal Philharmonic.

The show will see the second appearance of Greek saxophonist Theodore Kerkezos as featured soloist in Prof Narongrit's latest grand RBSO commission -- Fantasy On Chandrahu And Surindrahu For Saxophone And Orchestra. He will also perform a favourite of his instrument's library, the hugely entertaining Scaramouche – Suite For Alto Saxophone And Orchestra by Darius Milhaud.

Kerkezos has been hailed as one of the most astounding performers of today and many top contemporary composers have dedicated works to him. He has collaborated with many other A-list musicians such as Yuri Bashmet, Teodor Currentzis and Michael Nyman.

Tickets cost 600, 1,000, 1,500, 2,000 and 2,500 baht and can be purchased from thaiticketmajor.com.
