Nai Lert Park's flower fanfare returns

After a Covid-induced hiatus, the annual flower and art fair at Nai Lert Park, an oasis in Phloen Chit, is set to return from March 28-31.

With the "Blossoming Culinary Art" concept, the 35th edition of Nai Lert Flower & Garden Art Fair 2024 derives its main inspiration from the art of Thai cooking so you can expect tonnes of colourful flowers and culinary creations featuring edible flowers.

The fair, which started in 1986 by Thanpuying Lursakdi Sampatisiri, is a collaboration between Nai Lert Park and 20 partners such as the Thai Red Cross and TAT, resulting in five zones of floral and art exploration, as well as family-friendly activities from 9am-9pm. The five zones are "Flowers X Art", "Flowers X Exhibition", "Flowers X Market", "Flowers X Taste" and "Flowers X Play".

The piece de resistance is a sprawling carpet of flowers, grains, and seeds stretching more than 500m². Designed and created by celebrated floral designer and creative Sakchai Guy. There will also be 20 flower sculptures placed all over the venue for visitors to take photos with. Find them at "Flowers X Art".

The Nai Lert Park Heritage Home, an over 108-year-old golden teak house, will be used as the “Flowers X Exhibition" zone for various activities such as competitions for the best varieties of caladium and exhibitions. Another showpiece is a beeswax castle from Sakon Nakhon. The Isan province is known for its famous procession of beeswax castles during the end of Buddhist Lent so here's your chance to witness them in Bangkok and you don't even have to wait until October. While local artisans derive inspiration from contemporary and international art styles, they also keep the spirit of preserving local Thai culture in their grand work.

The "Blossoming Fashion and Textile Design Exhibition" is a collection of clothing made from food ingredients, which are designed by students from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts (Textile and Fashion Design), Thammasat University. The "Contemporary Thai Masterpieces" showcase the art of carving fruits and vegetables by the School of Culinary Art, Suan Dusit University. The Caladium Preservation and Development Association of Thailand will host a caladium competition and you can witness its varieties.

At the "Flowers X Market" zone, shop for art products and delicious food, selected specifically for this event. Expect famous eateries from all over Thailand, shop for silk and accessories or buy decorative plants or garden decor.

For "Flowers X Taste", special dishes made with flowers and floral decors will be served at Lady M, Thai restaurant Ma Maison, caviar connoisseur Caviar Café and École Ducasse Bangkok Café.

Last but by no means least is "Flowers X Play" where activities will be hosted throughout the day, including workshops for all ages, face painting for kids and live music performance from 4.30-8pm.

Naphaporn “Lek” Bodiratnangkura, Vice President of the Nai Lert Park Association.

Proceeds from the event after expenses will be donated to HRH Princess Maha Sirindhorn Proton Center, Chulalongkorn Hospital, Thai Red Cross Society, for the treatment of brain cancer in paediatric patients with proton particles.

Tickets come with a chance to win international flights from AirAsia. Check out the Nai Lert Flower & Garden Art Fair's Facebook page.
