Chiang Mai theatre group seeks talent

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

Glom, Chiang Mai's groundbreaking theatre group, is accepting applications for Chiang Mai Talent 2024 until Saturday as it looks for the next big star.

Designed to uncover the diverse talent hidden in this northern province, this year's most anticipated talent competition is positioned as a series of themed talent shows. Each episode will be filmed in front of a celebrity panel and focus on a specific talent style, with winners announced the same day.

Episode 1 of Chiang Mai Talent is calling all musical theatre enthusiasts -- dancers, singers or actors -- all levels and abilities. They can enter as individuals or groups, with performances in both Thai and English.

It will be filmed on April 27, with Thai actor-singer Witwisit "Pchy" Hiranyawongkul and British theatre stalwart David Cartwright as guest judges.

The first-prize winner will take home 15,000 baht and the runner-up 5,000 baht. Winners will also earn the chance to perform at the grand "Glom Talent Show Extravaganza" in December and earn paid work with Glom on projects.

This year, Chiang Mai Talent will host five audition events, each focusing on different performance arts -- from circus and street performances to bands and musicians.

This is not just another talent show but a celebration of Chiang Mai's unique flair and artistic spirit, with the aim of finding the best talent the city has to offer.
