Women can't keep it simple when it comes to skincare. The morning and bedtime beauty routines require different products and so the many launches of daytime versus nighttime formulae.

During the day, the skin faces damaging environmental factors such as UV rays, pollution and free radicals _ even the air-conditioning can strip the skin of its moisture.

"Dry skin is like a piece of paper that can easily get creases. Moisturising is thus important because it helps make the skin like a water-retaining sponge that helps delay the development of wrinkles," said Pattraporn Bangkaew, @skinexercise's marketing manager, who recommends using Oligo Hya Serum for daytime skin hydration. On the other hand, the Anti Wrinkle and Firming Activator facial serums work together at night to nourish the skin.

Following a night cream, H2O Plus has introduced Total Source All Day Cream featuring pearl protein and extracts from seaweed, rosemary leaf and rooibos, or red tea, which provides antioxidants to counteract skin-damaging free radicals.

La Prairie's approach is to strengthen the skin's natural defences against free radicals and at the same time repair existing damage. Earlier this year, the Swiss brand introduced Cellular Power Charge Night, followed by this month's launch of Cellular Power Serum with peptide and plant stem cell extract. Overworked skin should get a good rest at night, which is prime time for rejuvenation. Bedtime treatments include Sisley's Botanical D-Tox Detoxifying Night Treatment, Aviance Dermaceutical EX Essential Night Advanced Oil Serum and Luminesce Advanced Night Repair to address environmental damage and fortify the skin for the new day.

Yves Saint Laurent Beaute warns of waking up with 'pillow wrinkles'. As you sleep, the body is in the same position for many hours and that can crease the skin. Before taking your beauty sleep, the French brand recommends applying Forever Youth Liberator serum and night cream developed based on glycobiology.
