Spring/summer runways are hairy revealing

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

Recapping September's London Fashion Week, the spring/summer 2015 runways showcased a variety of hairstyles, some bound to make it as the season's top trends.

Glossy waves are a breeze, while oversized curls can be quickly created with the help of styling tools and products, resulting in glamorous locks seen on models from the Marchesa and Matthew Williamson shows.

Marchesa girls strutted a modern take on Bohemian glamour created by Mark Hampton, Toni & Guy global ambassador for Hair Meet Wardrobe fashion-inspired styling products.

"She's a free spirit, from a modern Woodstock. The hair look is loose and voluminous waves, it's feminine and understated," Hampton said, describing a look he's dubbed "Woodstock Waves".

The seemingly undone look actually requires conditioning frizzy strands with a smoothing detangler, then styling with a spritz of Glamour:3D Volumiser applied from mid-length to the end of the hair, followed by blow-drying on low heat at the roots.

A jumbo curling iron gives the end of the hair, in mid-size uneven sections, a little movement. The curls are held by a small, round brush for a final blast with the hair dryer, resulting in a looser and softer look, set in place by a firm-hold hairspray, also from the Glamour range of styling products.

Sexy Woodstock Waves were beaten by bigger curls flowing in The Flirtatious Bounce hairdo inspired by 70s glamour and the iconic images of Marie Helvin from fashion photographer David Bailey's book, Chasing Rainbows.

Self-styling begins with priming the hair with a heat protection mist before styling with the 3D Volumiser and curling tong, and setting with hairspray.

"Full of life, the hair is blow-dried into voluptuous bouncy waves for a sexy yet understated, polished look," said Hampton of his look for Matthew Williamson's show.

Besides Glamour, three other product ranges — Casual, Classic and Creative — deliver looks reflecting their names.

Casual looks dominated the Pop-down Pony for Helen Lawrence, while creative styling resulted in The Rebel Twist for Louise Alsop, both shows by Fashion East's emerging designers.

On the Vivienne Westwood Red Label runway, Hampton looked at each model's individuality, giving them different looks with punky elements.

Hairstyles ranged from quirky topknots to Marilyn Monroe curls, while The Classic Sweep evoked Elvis Presley's iconic quiff.

The side-swept updo can be easily recreated by priming hair with a plumping mousse, styling with gloss serum and setting with a medium-hold hairspray from the Classic product collection.
