Living the dream

Vick's latest collection is a hippie-inspired ode to the slow life, and so was the launch party.

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

The slow life seemed to be the theme for Vick’s 2016 collection “Dream Field”, released to mark the first anniversary of the fashion brand.

The collection was launched with a laid-back, hippie-themed party at The Jam Factory, the latest arty venue on Charoen Nakhon Road. The atmosphere was enhanced by a live concert and exhibition by six famous photographers. The entire venue was styled by Vick’s chief director, Ornpraphan Suttinoraseth.

The party was attended by number of celebrities and fans of Vick’s, including Pimpisa Chirathivat, Duangrit Bunnag, Disaya Korakochmas and Bhanu Inkawat. Notable actors and musicians also joined the party; Sushar Manaying, Pokchat Thiamchai, Sara Legge, Kamolned Ruengsri, Irada Siriwut and Note Panayanggool.

The fashion show was almost besides the point, since most of the guests were already wearing items from the collection, and looked as chic as models themselves.

Ornpraphan explained the concept of the Dream Field collection as embodying a lifestyle of laid-back happiness, with a focus on environmentally friendly “slow fashion”.

The collection takes inspiration from hippie trends, mixed with a trace of modernity. Cotton, silk and linen come together with clean cut lines and neat embroidery in Vick’s signature dark colours, although a brighter palette was also included.

From Vick’s point of view, the concept of slow fashion is about designs that are easy to wear, comfortable, and can be mixed and matched to suit a person’s daily needs.

Guests were seen taking photographs with the photo exhibition, which aimed to show that art and fashion enhance each other.

The six photographers presented work based on different themes.

Naruebet Wadvaree’s work was inspired by the concept of isolation reflected in Alex Katz’s art. His pictures depicted a distinctive holiday journey.

Sukhum Nakpradit’s work, 1,001 Nights and 1,000 Kilobytes, was intended to guide viewers into crossing the boundary between fact and deception.

Visual designer Supachai Pechry’s work, The Summer Wind, was inspired by Frank Sinatra’s song and the beauty of leaves and flowers, while Sirima Chaipreechawit created a black and white street fashion shoot, A White Ribbon.

Eakamon Theepatiganont, presented Out of Ordinary, reflecting an imaginative but simple way of life, while Natural Habitat of the Fangs, by the band Yellow Fang, was inspired by fun, warmth and gentleness in friendship.

Guests enjoyed the fashion show in laid-back style, sitting on mats on the grass, which was also the perfect way to enjoy the concert from Yellow Fang, Note Panayanggool, Sqweez Animal and Bangkok Paradise.
